Department at a Glance

Department of Biotechnology, Christ College, Rajkot is a nodal center of Network of Biotechnology Capacity Building Cell (N-BT-CBC) of GSBTM cell in the region of Saurashtra from the academic year 2018-19. The Department provides holistic teaching learning to students which would help to understand the subject through theory as well as practical by conducting workshop to provide hands on experiences, research projects, seminars, social awareness program needed for sensitization and intercalate social responsibility in young generation. Department is well equipped with infrastructure with advance instrumentation and facilities needed to do Molecular biology, Biochemistry, Plant tissue culture, Microbiology experiments. Faculties are well qualified and experienced with PhD and Postdoc degree. Two Faculties of the department have PhD guideship and one CSIR Net qualified.

Department of Biotechnology is coordinating the Star College Scheme awarded to Christ College under STAR strengthen for UG Sciences by Department of Biotechnology, Government of India. The department has also handled government funded projects and successfully completed UGC sponsored a major and minor research project and MHRD sponsored project on E-content development in collaboration with IIT Gandhinagar.

Message

from the HoD

As the head of the Biotechnology Department, I am glad to welcome all new and existing students, faculty, and staff to the department. Biotechnology is an interdisciplinary field that involves the application of biology and engineering principles to develop new technologies and products that improve human health, the environment, and the economy. Faculty members are highly experienced and passionate about teaching and conducting research that has real-world applications. Department provides individualized attention and mentoring to every student which helps them to develop the skills, knowledge and emotional support needed to prepare for strong career with mental toughness.

In addition to emphasis on academic pursuit, we also assist and encourage our students to actively participate in internships and research projects, giving them additional hands-on experience that prepares them for the workforce. Our graduates go on to pursue careers in a variety of industries, including biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, and healthcare.
