Fostering Flexibility and Growth — FDP by Rev. Dr. Fr. Jomon Thommanna

Our Faculty Development Programme (FDP), led by our Director Rev. Dr. Fr. Jomon Thommanna, inspired educators to reflect, reconnect, and rediscover the art of effective teaching through collaboration and adaptability.

The session began with an engaging activity where faculty members were encouraged to form groups — a simple yet insightful exercise that unveiled deeper lessons on team dynamics, familiarity, flexibility, and compatibility. Fr. Jomon emphasized the importance of diversity within teams — balancing male and female members, senior and junior faculty, and participants from various institutes — to create harmony through difference.

An open discussion followed, highlighting how bonding, instinct, adaptability, and shared knowledge strengthen professional relationships.

Fr. Jomon also delved into the two faces of stress — eustress (positive) and distress (negative), explaining through Yerkes-Dodson’s Law how the right amount of pressure can enhance performance. “If there is no stress, there is no change,” he shared, urging educators to channel healthy pressure into productivity and student growth.

The interactive session concluded with a collective realization — that true efficiency in teaching emerges from balance: between comfort and challenge, structure and spontaneity.
