REPORT OF ORIENTATION FOR FRESHERS

2023-24

An orientation programme was conducted for the incoming batch of students of 2022-23 on Monday, 3^rd July 2023 from 8.20 a.m.in the Conference hall of the College. The orientation was conducted in three batches; the first batch was for the students of Computer Applications and Science students of Arts and Commerce faculty and finally the students of the Department of Business Administration.

Each session of the orientation began with a prayer dance by the students of Arts Department, Ms. Mishri Shah, Shri Lakshmi and Muskan Punjabi. This was followed by the lamp lighting ceremony. In line with the College motto, “Prajwalita Gyanmaya Pradipa”, the Campus Director, Fr. Jomon Thomonna, the Principal of the College, Dr.Yvonne Fernandes, Heads of the concerned departments and student representatives were invited on the stage to light the lamp of knowledge.

The Director of the College, Fr. Jomon Thomonna gave a warm welcome to the incoming undergraduate and post graduate students and motivated them to take maximum opportunities for their holistic development. He also guided the students with the help of an anecdote of 5 pots to have an open personality in order to be able to absorb the knowledge and skills imparted by the College to shape their personality. He emphasised on the importance of a disciplined enviornment on campus and how inculcating a disciplined habit would lead to success.  

The Principal of the College Dr.Yvonne Fernandes gave insights on the various opportunities that students would be provided during the tenure of their graduation and post-graduation in the College. She emphasised on the academic and other achievements of the College students to the new batches. She encouraged the students to make optimum use of the resources and opportunities in the three years for accomplishing excellence and attaining their goals. The sessions were anchored by Dr. Tisha Roy, Head of the Department of Arts Faculty.

This was followed by an Orientation for the new comers which comprised of a presentation on the History of the College, its vision and mission, management body, its achievements, courses offered, facilities, welfare mechanisms for students, rules and regulations to be followed as students and the change in academic systems as per the New Education Policy as well as the CBCS system including the pattern of evaluation – internal as well as external and assessment system. This session was conducted by Dr. Swati Doshi, Head Department of Commerce and Dr. Charmy Kothari, Head, Department of Biotechnology.

Also each department conducted two interactive sessions in class to familiarise the students with the faculty members as well as their peers and also to make them feel at home. They were introduced to the new courses and the course facilitators in their respective programmes.

Various selfie points were artistically created for the new students by the senior students under the guidance of Dr. Shailendrasinh Jadeja, Head, Department of Computer Applications and Ms.Sony Zala, Assistant Professor, Department of Arts. Finally a treasure hunt on the campus was organised to familiarise them with the various facilities on campus. Dr. Gaurav Vora, Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce.
